Using Verbs for Effective Writing: Lesson & Activity

Using Verbs for Effective Writing: Lesson & Activity

Lesson + worksheet · Grades 6–10 · Slides + worksheet · $3

This lesson is about how verb choices change a sentence: active vs. passive voice, the conditional mood, and the subjunctive mood. Good for grades 6-10.

The slides define each one with examples and sentence patterns, like "If + subject + past tense, subject + would + verb" and "If I were you..." Students practice changing active sentences to passive on a "Can You Do It?" slide. The worksheet has them rewrite 5 passive sentences as active, label 5 sentence pairs by voice or mood, and write a short reflection on how these choices help their writing.
