Fiction: Presentations, STAAR Stems & Exit Ticket

Fiction: Presentations, STAAR Stems & Exit Ticket

Lesson · Grades 7–10 · Slides · $2

A guided fiction lesson I use to set up how we talk about stories all year. It covers plot, setting, conflict, characterization, theme, point of view, author's purpose, archetypes, and symbolism. Good for grades 7-10.

Each element gets a short definition, a how-to-analyze strategy, and real STAAR-style question stems, like "How does the setting contribute to the development of the theme?" Students fill in a notes chart as you go, with columns for definition, strategy, and question stems.

The notes doc ends with an SCR exit ticket: how does the setting of your selected text influence the plot?
