Level Up Phonics is a systematic, explicit phonics program built on the Science of Reading. Level 1 teaches all 26 letters and their sounds in a blend-early order (s, a, t, p, i, n first), with a verbal handwriting path for every uppercase and lowercase letter and a daily phonemic awareness warm-up that grows from rhyme to syllables, first sounds and blending.
Every lesson follows the same Level Up Loop (about 30 minutes): phonemic awareness warm-up, Meet the Letter, Handwriting Path, Sound Hunt, picture mini-book read-aloud and Letter Run. From Lesson 4, a Word Builder has students blend real words with the letters they know.
The same diverse crew of friends from the later levels appears on the cover and word wall. Every letter comes with a Spanish-transfer tip, and every home note is in English and Spanish.
