Fiction or Nonfiction? Sort, Read & Write
Printable activities · Grades 1–3 · PDF, 15 pages · $3
Students learn to tell fiction from nonfiction by looking for clues instead of guessing. It starts with an anchor chart (a full version plus a fill-in student version), then moves into two cut-and-paste sorts and a ten-sentence fiction-or-nonfiction check.
In the Clue Hunt, students read a short fiction passage and a short nonfiction passage and write the clue that gave it away. Then they find text features on a nonfiction page, compare two books, fill in a Venn diagram, write one sentence of each, log their reading and finish with exit tickets.
