ECR Boss Battle: STAAR Extended Constructed Response Boot Camp (English I & II)
Test prep unit · Grades 8–10 · PowerPoint (25 slides) + PDF (27 pages), ZIP · $8
The Extended Constructed Response is the hardest part of STAAR English I and II, and this boot camp turns it into a boss battle. Students level up through five skills: decoding the prompt, hunting for evidence, forging a thesis, building evidence-sandwich paragraphs and mapping the essay. Then they face a timed Final Boss essay.
The pack includes three sets of original paired passages: school start times (argumentative), urban heat islands (informational) and the four-day school week (the timed Final Boss). Students also score three original sample essays (5, 3 and 2 points) with a student-friendly rubric. Conventions Power-Ups, a Victory Check self-review and an XP Tracker graph help them watch their scores climb.
The 25-slide deck looks like a video game, with neon arena backgrounds, level splash screens, boss HP bars, guess-the-score reveals and a battle clock.
