Romeo and Juliet Comprehensive Exam with SCR & ECR
Assessment · Grades 8–10 · PDF · $5 or included with All-Access
This is the end-of-unit test I give after we finish Romeo and Juliet. It covers the whole play, from the Capulet feast to the families ending the feud, and it's built for grades 8-10.
Students start with 20 multiple-choice questions on plot and character. Then they write two short constructed responses: one on the role of fate, one on how Mercutio shapes the play's themes. Each SCR comes with a guidance note that tells them where to look in the text.
The essay is a correspondence ECR. Students write a formal letter to their school's curriculum board arguing for or against keeping Romeo and Juliet in the high school curriculum, with a checklist that covers thesis, evidence, counterarguments, and formal tone.
