Intro to Short Constructed Responses (SCR)
Lesson · Grades 8–10 · Slides · $5 or included with All-Access
This is how I introduce the SCR to students who have never written one. We start with a picture bellringer so nobody is scared off by a long passage: what is happening, answer in a sentence, find three pieces of evidence.
Then I name what they just did. The slides break the SCR into claim, evidence, and reasoning, and each part gets a definition, a callback to the bellringer, and sentence starters. We finish with a simple 0-1-2 rubric so students can score their own response.
