A lesson and worksheet set for teaching kids to slow down on word problems. The slides teach the C.U.B.E. method: Circle the numbers, Underline the question, Box the key words, Eliminate extra information. Then students pick a strategy, solve, and label.

Students practice with a picture and a number sentence, including box-the-unknown problems ("45 + __ = 67"). The worksheet steps up in three sets: one-step problems within 30, larger one-step problems, then true multi-step problems.
